How Exactly to Ask for the Right Haircut at the Barber

Because sometimes the words are hard to find.

You look in the mirror and it takes everything in you not to scream. Your barber has done it again – and by it, we mean the worst haircut ever. This is not what you wanted. Bad news: you only have yourself to blame for the hair disaster. Grab some gel, try to fix it, and remember, it'll grow back.

How can you avoid any other haircut horrors?

According to the barbers of Reddit, you can change your behaviors as soon as you slide into the chair. These seven helpful pieces of expert advice can save you from experiencing that shocking look in the mirror ever again.

1. Come prepared.

"Take a picture of yourself when you get a haircut you like, so when your barber dies of old age you can show it to his 65 yr old son who now owns the barber shop." —MMMLG

2. Become a regular.

"The trick is to find a good barber and keep giving him your business, these days I just ask him how he's doing and he gets on with it. Also, a good barber should be able to guide you and recommend something that fits you. I'm notoriously bad at explaining what I want and usually panic and let my wife explain it to them." —zerbey

3. Ask questions and learn the lingo.

"Any time I get a haircut I really like, I ask, 'what would I say to get this exact cut again?'" —MHM5035

4. Chill with the products.

"DON'T: Use gel. It's bad for the hair and a pain in the ass to get out. And it looks stupid... Use too much. This will leave your hair looking dull and sticky." —Happytrigger
